Performance Hurdles


Good day!

Just a little update to say that progress on Arcane Earth has been a bit slower lately while I wrestle with some stubborn FPS issues. The game runs in GameMaker Studio 1, which has been great for getting ideas out quickly… but it definitely shows its age when multiple of instances start running at once.

I am working on optimising the way the world is drawn, especially with all the new clickable blocks, and it has been an interesting (and occasionally frustrating) puzzle to solve. Do not worry though! The issue is definitely not my coding skills! It is just the engine being a bit temperamental… probably?

And just as a small disclaimer: I am not a “real” game dev, I just find this whole process really therapeutic and enjoy sharing it with you all. Thanks for following along and being part of the journey. Your support makes it worth it!

Arcane Earth is once again coming close to a product I will be happy with sharing. As you may see from the screenshots above, we are almost there! Currently I am working on the achievement/quest system named Runes. It is then a game of test test test and test some more. Stay tuned for more!
