Back on track!


It has been a WHILE… But I am back on track with designing this game for my partner. I may post about the long gap at some other point in the future. But for now, how about some updates?

I have been working on this for three weeks and have designed some new things, changed some old things and am here to present these to you!

Redesigned Sigoo the owl;

Added slippy ice blocks;

Added snow blocks and winter effects (snow blanket, snowflakes, snow trees, snow flowers, snow rocks); Designed the very first boss (tweaks to come);

Added passive penguins;

Added spider corpses… for what reason?;

Added little spiders that crawl around the ground and can be squished. they don’t hurt you, so why are you squishing them??? :’(

Dog bones are now gold instead of bone brown;

Ddded bouncing mushrooms. the more you bounce on them within a timeframe, the higher they can bounce you. this can be used for new puzzles and accessability to reach higher grounds!;

Added new rock designs to ensure the backrounds are diverse and varied. including a snowman and owl stone;

Added a big snowball that gains size while rolling to the right of the map;

Character art improvement (1 extra colour to help with blending of pixels);

Reworked some of the movement system. moving now feels more fluid and less sharp;

Designed floating ship levels with insperation from super mario bros 3;

Designed oak trees to have different coloured leaf and bark depending on location;

Changed the coins to hearts. coins aren’t anything related to my Siobhan, whereas hearts are! they can be purple or blue, depending on the level;

Introducing, Siobhan Scent! simply holding the S key will locate hidden coins with ease. Holding S will make time slower, disable you from moving and also darken the screen. Showing coins and collectables behind blocks! Siobhan Scent will also show dangers that glow red;

Dirt blocks can now spawn random magical icons above blended in;

Added piano blocks that will produce a sound when stepped or jumped on. each key keeps its own pitch; Added two drums, similar to the piano keys;

New block types! sand and sandstone! this has also given me the opportunity to create brick tiles that match the already existing stone blocks;

Added 8 new block types (brick and brick tops for all stones);

Created fog effects that work really nicely with snow and desert themed levels;

Rejigged the block merging system to allow merging on none solid blocks;

Added shadow to blocks without blocks under them;

Boat level map now pushes the camera to add extra difficulty and level difference;

Began work on a different level type where the camera moves upwards. if you fall below the camera, you have to restart the map;

Massive FPS increases.
